Product Design
Over the course of my career, I have worked on product design in a variety of areas, including furniture design, toy design, exhibit design, packaging design, and softgoods accessories. I have enjoyed the diversity of these different kinds of products. When possible, I have enjoyed working on projects that I can oversee the entire process. I find that to be incredibly rewarding.
Furniture & Lighting
Furniture and lighting design is one of my favorite areas of design. I enjoy working on projects that are used regularly and stay in a person's life for a longer period of time. I also really love the mix of structural design with the fabrics, and all the interesting materials and varying design aesthetics you can create. I am equally comfortable working on flat pack furniture and high style design, as both have a purpose and an appropriate setting.

Computer Accessories
These accessories were designed for the enterprise and educational direct sales market. As a staff designer, I managed a number of projects simultaneously through all steps of the process. Working in the soft goods industry has a unique set of challenges in terms of the manufacturing process, tolerances, and quality control, since each piece is hand sewn. My grandmother taught me to sew and make patterns as a child. It's a personal passion of mine, and has been very beneficial in performing this job.

Hand Strap Design Process
This design resulted in 2 hand straps made of differing materials. I came up with a new method of attaching a hand strap to a series of new devices for the customer. We had a previous design for a different device that had a three point attachment method. This design went through several different iterations of clip designs, material combinations, and price points. I was responsible for creating and managing prototype requests to the manufacturer in China, keeping the design team informed of the progress of the project, ensuring landed price remained within acceptable range for sales projections, final product approval, photographing final product, creating sales PDF, user guide, and installation video, and loading all files to the company website upon product launch.

Other Designs
Here are some examples of various other designs I've worked on over the years. Transportation design is also one of my favorite areas of design, as I come from a background of working on and enjoying the use of many different toys that go vroom! I really love the variety in different kinds of products that you can pursue with Industrial Design. And the reward of creating something usable and tangible is amazing!
